Times of Salah

1. The beginning of the time for the dawn (fajr) [prayer] is when the second dawn rises, and that is the lateral whiteness on the horizon.  The end of its time is as long as the sun has not risen.

2.The beginning of the time for zuhr is when the sun declines.  The end of its time according to Abu Hanifah is when the shadow of everything becomes twice its [length] in addition to the shadow at midday.  Abu Yusuf and Muhammad said : when the shadow if everything becomes its [length] [instead of twice].

3. The beginning of the time for `asr is when the time for zuhr departs, according to both views.  The end of its time is as long as the sun has not set.

4.The beginning of the time for maghrib is when the sun has set.  The end of its time is as long as the twilight has not  disappeared. [The twilight] is, according to Abu Hanifah, the whiteness on the horizon after the redness.  Abu Yusuf and Muhammad said : it is the redness.

5.The beginning of the time for `isha’is when the twilight has disappeared.  The end of its time is as long as the dawn has not yet risen. The beginning of the time for witr is after `isha’.  The end of  its time is as long as the dawn has not risen.

Wiping the head - the obligatory [part] in wiping the head is the extent of the forelock [one-fourth], based on that which

Fever will save from the fire of Judgment Day

The Greatest and Holiest Prophet visited a patient and said: Good news for you that Allah has said, ‘Fever is My fire that’s why I impose it upon My true bondsman in the world so that on the Judgment Day it becomes compensation for its fire.

Reward for one night’s fever

There is a physical suffering in fever, but it has countless Hereafter advantages as well, therefore, instead of complaining nervously, remain patient and earn the reward.

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah  has narrated: One who suffers from a fever for a night and remains patient on it and is pleased with Allah will get rid of his sins as he was when his mother gave birth to him.

Death without being ill

A person passed away in the blessed era of the Holy Prophet, someone said, ‘How fortunate he is that he passed away without being ill.’ The Beloved and Blessed Prophet said,

‘Regret on you! Don’t you know if Allah had made him suffer from any disease, He would have removed his sins.'

Worship in young age brings peace in old age

One reciting the Holy Quran in youth will remain safe from forgetfulness in old age by its blessing. It is commonly observed that most old people use foul language and forget things but there are some fortunate old people who are so knowledgeable and intellectual that others feel overawed by them. One of the reasons of this glory and greatness is the recitation of Quran and other acts of worship performed in youth.

How should a woman observe veil in her in-laws’ house?

Woman must be careful to observe veil with her brothers-in-law.Al- Bukhari states that Sayyiduna ‘Uqbah Bin Amir narrated, The Prophet of mankind, the Peace of our heart and mind, the most Generous and Kind (PBUH) said,

‘Avoid women’. One man asked, ‘Ya Rasulallah! What about the brother-in-law?’ He (PBUH)
answered, ‘The brother-in-law is death.’ (Ra3i3 Bukhari, vol. 3, pp. 472,  hadiÅ¡ 5232)

A brother-in-law confronting his sister-in-law is like the one confronting death because there is a higher risk of indecency here.Mufti-e-A’am Pakistan, Waqar-e-Millat, Maulana Waqaruddin says,

‘It is necessary for her to observe ‘veil’ excluding her face, palms, heels, feet and ankles; with all men that are non-Mahram); she should also avoid revealing her beauty, jewelry and dress to them.’ (Waqar-ul-Fatawa, vol. 3, pp. 101)

One narration states, ‘If any man casts a lustful glance at the beauty of a non-Mahram woman, then on the Day of Judgement, molten lead will be poured into his eyes’. (Hidayah, vol. 2, pp. 368)

One’s sister-in-law is definitely a non-Mahram woman. Any brother in-law who has deliberately and lustfully been looking at, behaving casually towards, or joking around with his sister-in-law, must fear Divine punishment and instantly repent without delaying a single Millisecond. If a woman refers to her brother-in-law as ‘younger brother’ or ‘older brother’ then this does not make it permissible for them to see each other and have an informal relationship. In fact, this kind of informal chit-chat removes any formalities and brings them close, which results in the brother-in-law and sister-in-law falling even deeper into the ditch of sins, such as looking at each other, casual behavior, joking, laughing etc. Informal conversation between a woman and her brother-in-law sounds a constant alarm signifying extreme danger.May Allah make these words penetrate the heart. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law must be very careful. A sacred HadiÅ¡ states Eyes fornicate.(Musnad Imam A3mad Bin  anbal, vol. 3, pp. 305,  adiÅ¡ 8852)

Anyhow, if it is difficult for a woman to observe veil with close non-Mahram relatives whilst living in the same house, then she is allowed to reveal her face but she must strictly avoid wearing thin clothes which reveal the colour of her hair, skin etc. or clothes which are so

tight that the shapes of her body-parts and those of the raised parts of the chest get revealed.

Can a male doctor look at and touch a female patient?

If a female doctor is not available, then this is permissible in case of compulsion. Allamah
Maulana Mufti Muhammad Amjad ‘Ali Azami says:

One scenario in which it may be necessary for a man to look at a non-Ma ram woman is illness. He may need to see certain bodyparts of an ill woman for treatment, in fact, he may need to touch her e.g. touching her hand to check her pulse or touching her abdominal area if there is a doubt of internal swelling, or looking at an abscess are permissible in such situations. He is allowed to look at the affected area, and if necessary, touch the area but only as much as is needed. This is permissible only when a female doctor is unavailable to perform the medical treatment; otherwise, women should be taught methods of medical treatment so that they may  work in such circumstances, because their looking at other women is not as bad as is the looking or touching of men.

Midwives are available in most areas to check any abdominal swelling. If midwives are available then there is no need for a man to check. Even in cases where a male doctor is allowed to look at a woman, it is essential that only the required part of the body is exposed and
the rest of the body must remain concealed so that he cannot see it.
(Ibid, pp. 90-91)
If merely ‘looking’ is necessary, then touching is not permissible by Shari’ah. Remember! Touching is worse than looking.

Is a man allowed to look at a woman he intends to marry?

A man allowed to look at a woman he intends to marry and both may see each other.
Allamah Maulana Mufti Muhammad Amjad ‘Ali Azami says: (Amongst the cases in which it is permissible for a man and woman to see each other) one scenario is when a man intends to marry a woman; looking at her with this intention is permissible, because a HadiÅ¡ states: When you intend to marry someone, take a look at her for this causes constant love.1 Similarly, a woman may take a look at the man who has proposed to her, even if there is possibility of lust, however, both (man and woman) must have the sole intention to follow this HadiÅ¡.

Is there a part of the body that a husband and wife are not permitted to look at?

There is no such part of the body that a husband and wife are not permitted to look at. Allamah Maulana Mufti Muhammad Amjad ‘Ali stated: (A husband) may look at every part of his wife’s body from head to toe whether or not he feels lust. In the same way, both types of women (i.e. wife and slave-girl, the latter does not exist today) can see every part of the man. However, it is better (for both husband and wife) to not look at each other’s private parts as this weakens the memory and eyesight. (Ibid, pp. 87)

woman’s adornment for her husband

Wearing jewelry to please her husband reward-earning deed. Hazrat, Imam-e-Ahl-e-
Sunnat, Maulana Shah Imam A mad Raza Khan (R.A) says:

For a woman to wear jewelry and adorn herself in order to please her husband, is a means of great reward and better for her than Nafl e salah. Some women as well as their husbands were honorable saints. These righteous ladies adorned themselves fully like brides every night after s alat-ul-Isha’ and appeared before their husbands. If they felt the need for their presence, they stayed; otherwise they removed their jewelry, changed their dresses, spread their prayer-mats, and
began to offer salah. The adornment of a bride is an early Sunnah supported by many Ah adiš. In fact, it is a Sunnah to encourage unmarried girls to wear jewelry and beautiful clothing so that they
receive marriage proposals. (Fatawa Razawiyyah, vol. 22, pp. 126)

However, remember that adornment must be made within home, and be visible only to Ma ram relatives. To beautify women and wander freely with them whilst they are unveiled in front of non-
Mha ram men is haram and leads to Hell.

Wearing of anklet

Angels do not enter home that has anklet in it
Sayyidatuna Bunanah ( R.A) said that once she was with the mother of believers Sayyidatuna ‘Aishah iddiqah  (R.A) ! when a girl came whilst wearing jingling anklets. She
said,

‘Do not bring her to me unless her anklets are broken. I heard the Noblest Prophet  say that angels do not enter the home that has a jingling anklet in it.’

Is observing veil necessary these days?

To observe veil is necessary for women. The following information will hopefully make it easy to understand the rulings about Islamic veil.

Verse:
“ Allah And remain in your houses and do not stay unveiled like the unveiling of the former days of ignorance.”
[Kanz-ul-Iman (Translation of Quran)] (Part 22, Surah Al-A3zab, verse 33)

Commenting on this verse, Allamah Maulana Sayyid Muhammad Na’imuddin Muradabadi has stated: The former days of ignorance refer to the pre- Islamic era when women would strut proudly, display their beauty and attractive features (i.e. jewellery, attractive clothes, raised parts of the chest etc.) for strange men to see. They wore garments that only partially concealed their bodies.

Unfortunately! Even in the present era, we see unveiling similar to that of the former era of ignorance. Undoubtedly, observing veil is as important today as it was then.
